The latest news on your energy efficiency obligations
Following the conclusion of the Governments consultation on the Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPs) included within the Energy Act 2011, guidance has been published clarifying how these new standards will be implemented when they come into force from 1 April 2018.
The minimum energy efficiency standard for privately rented domestic properties has been confirmed as an ‘E’ Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) Rating, and the Government have chosen to adopt a phased introduction of the new regulations, ensuring Landlords have time to implement any necessary improvements.
From the 1st April 2018 the regulations will apply where a new tenancy is granted, to a new or existing tenant, and the regulations will apply to all privately rented properties by 1st April 2020.
