Feed-In Tariff to end April 2019
FIT (Feed-In Tariff) has driven the installation of over 800,000 small-scale renewable schemes across the UK since 2010. It will now be ending in April 2019.
FIT has gradually declined by 90% between 2010 and 2018 and this has been a particular blow to social landlords. Social landlords could previously enjoy low-carbon energy for residents and it became a long-term source of income for them.
The closure is predicted to allow the government to develop a system that takes into account the growth of technologies such as batteries and the changing energy landscape. It will also save an average of £1 a year per British household according to the impact assessment.
