The Government has amended the Housing Bill, currently being debated in the House of Lords, to include regulations that could make regular electrical safety checks mandatory for all Landlords.

Landlords are already required by law to ensure that the electrical installation and all electrical appliances are 'safe' with little risk of injury or death to humans, or risk of damage to property but there are no formal regulations requiring Landlords to complete regular electrical safety inspections.

There are no firm details as yet but the Government intend to consult with those involved in the private rent sector prior to introducing any new regulations.  DASH will of course keep you updated as and when new information is available.
