E-ON has announced a significant energy fund to install energy efficiency improvements exclusively targeting homes in the private rented sector. The funding is split between the Carbon Emissions Reduction Obligation (CERO) and Affordable Warmth. The subsidies for CERO aren’t as high as for Affordable Warmth, as it isn’t aimed at the most vulnerable tenants, it is a broader offer but there are still significant subsidies available.
From April 2018, unless a valid exemption applies, landlords must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating of E or above to let homes to tenants or to renew leases to existing tenants under the new Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES)
There is no eligibility criteria for CERO, the subsidies are available to anyone who has a property that requires energy improvements. Energy efficiency improvements can include the following measures: cavity wall insulation, loft insulation, external wall insulation and boiler upgrades.
For Affordable Warmth the funding available will vary depending on the property type, size and heating source and does also require certain benefit criteria. Properties with a non-gas source of heating will attract more funding.
E-ON has an installer network which provides nationwide coverage for CERO but not all areas are covered for Affordable Warmth.
These measures are subject to terms and conditions.
This funding has been offered as part of the Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme, which places legal obligations on large energy suppliers to fund energy efficiency measures in domestic premises.
