Linolnshire Landlord Newsletter - Issue 20
Do you remember where you were when Boston flooded?
A large number of homes, many of them rental properties, flooded in Boston during the tidal surge on 5 December 2013.
To make sure you will know if flooding is expected in the area in the future, make sure you sign up to the Environment Agency’s free flood warning service - Floodline. The early warning will give you vital time to help reduce the impact on your property. You can register up to five ways to get the warnings, using a combination of home/mobile numbers, text, email, fax or even pager.
It is really easy to sign up - just email rachael.mcmahon@environment-agency.gov.uk with details of your property house numbers or house names, plus postcodes. It is important that you provide all of your property addresses because there are multiple flood warning areas covering the area and we need to ensure you receive the right information. Alternatively, you can post these details to: Rachael McMahon, Flood Resilience Advisor, Environment Agency, Waterside House, Waterside North, Lincoln, LN2 5HA.
You can also encourage your tenants to register directly as well by calling Floodline on 0345 988 1188 or going online at www.gov.uk/flood which has plenty of information about what people can do to protect their homes and businesses before, during and after flooding. Not only can people keep valuables upstairs out of harm’s way for example, but they can complete a flood plan so that important phone numbers and information is kept together in one place.
It is not just Boston residents that should consider registering for flood warnings – other areas of the county could also be affected by flooding from rivers or the sea.
Please call Rachael McMahon at the Environment Agency on 01522 785904 if you have any questions
