Electrical safety standards
On 25th October, the provisions of the Housing and Planning Act 2016 that relate to electrical safety checks came into force for the purposes of making regulations. This means that the Secretary of State now has the power to make the regulations about how these checks occur and who undertakes them.
The recommendations by the Electrical Safety Working group included that mandatory electrical installation checks should be carried out every 5 years.
Although no timescale has yet been given, it is expected that the new regulations may come into force sometime during 2020, subject to parliamentary approval.
Look out for Government updates and guidance in the coming months.
