Lincolnshire landlords Newsletter, Issue 23 - Update on Selective Licensing scheme in Gainsborough
The Selective Licensing scheme in Gainsborough South West Ward has now commenced and landlords are required to apply for a licence by the 31st October 2016.
Every landlord with a let property in the area must apply for a license. It is the property which is licensed, so you will need a license for each property that you own and let.
Check whether your property falls within the designated area for the scheme
Applications for a license will be handled by the Home Safe Scheme and landlords will need to register with them at www.thehomesafescheme.org.uk
West Lindsey District Council has an information point on their website www.west-lindsey.gov.uk/selectivelicensing where landlords can learn more about Selective licensing.
A number of landlords have already applied to join the scheme and property inspections will commence from the 1st October 2016.
Landlords are required to apply for a licence by the deadline of the 31st October 2016. Failure to do so will be a criminal offence and will result in prosecution with fines of up to £20,000. Once issued, failure to comply with the conditions of the license can also lead to a fine of up to £5,000.
