Afghanistan: housing portal – offers of support

The Ministry Housing Communities & Local Government (MHCLG) has launched a portal for pledges of offers of homes to accommodate people arriving from Afghanistan.

Portal: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/afghanistan-housing-portal-offers-of-support

The portal has been created to allow the government to collect and process offers of additional housing support for people arriving from Afghanistan, where those offers are for entire homes and from property owners, organisations or companies.

Those who would like to contribute something other than entire homes, for example, housing, fostering or donations, can visit the ‘Help refugees who have come to the UK’ page to offer help to refugees in their local area.

Update 03.09.21

One area of concern for landlords if if there will be an affect on their insurance as we am advised that many companies do not provide cover for asylum seekers. Broxtowe Borough Council spoke to a representative from the Home Office who advised the following:

Individuals on the 'ARAP scheme' enter the United Kingdom with 5 years leave to enter, they can then apply for indefinite leave to remain after 5 years.

They are not asylum seekers and are not in the UK with Refugee leave/Humanitarian protection
