House wanted for a refugee family in Nottingham
Sherwood Sponsors Refugees is a community group working in partnership with local people, Nottingham City Council and the Home Office to help a refugee family to settle in Nottingham via the Government's Community Sponsorship scheme. We have been approved by the Home Office and raised the required £9000 funding, all that remains is to find a house.
The family will receive wraparound support from our volunteers, who will step in to offer extra support if the family should get into difficulties. This will cover financial management including rent-budgeting, benefits, health, education, employment, language and cultural awareness. Our group is made up of people with wide ranging experience in supporting vulnerable people.
We are looking for a house within the Nottingham City Council area (if possible near Sherwood where our volunteers are based). Once a house is identified and approved, the family will be selected by the United Nations from a refugee camp in the Middle East. When they arrive in Nottingham the family will already have refugee status. This means they will receive benefits, including housing benefit to cover the rent up to the Local Housing Allowance.
We need a landlord who would be prepared to let at the Local Housing Allowance rate, perhaps somebody who has a portfolio of properties and would be happy for one to be used in this good cause. It may also be an option for one or more investors to buy a property for this purpose.
What we need:
A house or apartment within the Nottingham City Council area (if possible, adjacent to Sherwood)
Preferably 3 bedrooms.
The house must be available for at least two years.
We may be able to help with any refurbishments the property might need.
LHA rates
2 bedrooms: 108.26 per week
3 bedrooms: 123.90 per week
4 bedrooms: 156.05 per week
