Illegal Eviction Shared Service for Councils
Safer Renting has worked in partnership with councils for over 10 years to support their enforcement and homelessness functions.
They provide expert housing law advice and advocacy to residents who are experiencing, or at risk of, illegal eviction and harassment in the private rented sector.
The Safer Renting team provides tailored advice to individuals about their rights and options, as well as advocating to prevent evictions and stop harassment.
The service supports council’s enforcement activity in relation to breaches of the landlord legislation by gathering evidence and taking witness statements.
The evidence bundles provided can support issuing a Civil Penalty Notice or bringing a criminal prosecution; these are the two options for councils under the new ‘duty to enforce’ imposed by the Renters Rights Act 2025.
Safer Renting have teamed up with DASH Services to offer Local Authorities a workable practical solution to implementing and adapting to the duties that Council now have as a result of the Renters Rights Act 2025.
