Renters' Rights Bill - A DASH update from MHCLG for Local Authority Officers

The Renters’ Rights Bill was introduced in the House of Commons on 11 September with it’s second ready scheduled for 9th October 2024.

The Renters’ Rights Bill will deliver on the government manifesto commitment to transform the experience of private renting, levelling the playing field between landlords and tenants by providing renters with greater security, rights and protections.

The Bill will replace section 21 ‘no fault’ evictions with a modern tenancy system and crack down on the minority of unscrupulous landlords who exploit, mistreat or discriminate against tenants.

It also looks to drive significant improvements to conditions in the private rented sector, including applying a Decent Homes Standard and extending ‘Awaab’s Law’ to the sector.

As local government officers it is important we keep abreast of these changes so DASH Services have invited senior Officers from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) to talk us through the Bill in more detail and answer any questions we may have from a Local Authority perspective.
